Our pigs are bred on site and the Mothers and Boar never leave the main farm area. You can see some of them from the road as you approach the mini roundabout at the bottom of the Old Perth Road in Cantsdam, but PLEASE be considerate to other road users and drive safe (they can be quite a distraction if you or your children have not seen pigs outside before). They only stay in the buildings (which are cleaned twice every day and new straw given) when they are about to give birth or have young piglets that are not yet weaned.

Once they are big enough, the young piglets are then moved outside or taken to other local areas where they are raised outdoors until they reach their Pork weight of around 140 kilos. Factory farms can bring their pigs to this size in less than 5 months, our (natural) pigs take from 7 months to a year depending on the weather, how they are crossed, type of feed etc. Where possible, we source as much of our feed as possible from local farms and the rest comes from local farm shops. Quite simply, we practice what we preach and try to keep everything as local as possible.

As we grow, it is our intention to join the Rare Breed Society and support the sustaining of British Pig Breeds. Ask any child to paint a picture of a pig and I guarantee you it will be pink, the type used by factory farms. A further guarantee that I will make to you is that you will NEVER see a pink pig here! (Except for the occasional Old Spot who has been out in the sun too long!)

Pig Breeds
Our Boar is a 2 year old British Saddleback bought North of Perth (Scottish Saddleback?) from a like-minded traditional breeder who also believes in giving all of his animals the kind of care and attention sadly lacking from the Superstore suppliers. Our breeding girls are Saddlebacks, Tamworth ’s, Old Spots and Crosses selected for their size and markings.
